Over a decade ago, I created a character named Mya Kenorfield, a fighter and a magic user who’s only goal in life was to take down a tyrant king. At first, she was only 18, because that’s the age 11 year old me thought was the coolest. Now she’s 30, and she doesn’t spare any extra thoughts for the shitty government she lives in. She only cares about her son, a 5 year old boy with tremendous magical power that makes him a target.
I told my therapist about the change when I finally decided to make it, and she asked me which character in the story best represents me. I, foolishly, said Mya has all my fight, all my rage and energy. Doctor Mills said that Wenru, the scared little boy, seems to have all my fear and anxiety.
Book 1 of Mother of War has been finished for about a year, but the rest of it… I think it’s going to take a long time for Mya to see daylight. I might even turn 30 myself before the world gets to know her.
